Baybayin : Ancient Filipino Writing
Baybayin is an ancient Filipino script. It is also sometimes called Alibata. This set does NOT work on Brainspeed or iKnow. ONLY on DRILL BETA Learn the ancient script of the Filipinos! Before the Spanish came to the Philippines, the Filipinos were already using their very own ancient writing. It is from the Javanese script called Old Kawi. Though a working knowledge or at least a passive knowledge of Tagalog would help (specifically, the phonetic sounds of Tagalog—very similar to Japanese), anyone who wants to learn this interesting script should be able to get it down in no time! In this version, I also included the modified symbols: ᜍ᜔ ᜍ ᜍᜒ ᜍᜓ. These symbols are not officially in the alphabet, but I included it in case you encounter it as there are now authors and artists who employ these symbols. ᜍ᜔ ᜍ ᜍᜒ ᜍᜓ are for the letter set “R.” Traditionally, ᜇ᜔ ᜇ ᜇᜒ ᜇᜓ is used as both D and R (interchangeably), however, a lot of readers get confused, especially the beginners, as to when to read them as D or R. ᜍ᜔ ᜍ ᜍᜒ ᜍᜓ has made things a LITTLE easier. I still advise you to use the traditional ᜇ᜔ ᜇ ᜇᜒ ᜇᜓ symbols as they are the correct form to use.
