Ever wanted to learn a foreign language? Need to memorize facts for your biology and chemistry classes? Or maybe you’re a history buff or a trivia fiend who just wants to know everything. Smart.fm can help you hit your learning goals fast.
The beauty of Smart.fm is that it makes learning easy. The system tells you what to study and when. You can see your progress across everything you're learning, and a schedule is automatically generated for you. As you use the system, it adapts to you.
Items are the basic building blocks of of the Smart.fm system. All items are A-B pairs: item-response. The item can be either text or an image.
Examples of items include: vocabulary words in a foreign language (word-definition), dates you need to memorize (event-date), or even breeds of dogs (picture-breed). As long as the item can prompt a response, you can learn it here.
To any item you can attach sample sentences and extra info. The sample sentences come up during the quiz cycle, which is great for language learning, whereas the extra info is just supplementary stuff that’s useful or interesting.
Goals are collections of items around a common theme, or goal. Within a goal, you can group items into sets, kind of like playlists in iTunes.
To find a goal that matches your needs, you can browse Featured and Hot goals in the "Explore" page. You can also go to "Start a Goal", where you can search all existing goals or create your own. Making a goal is easy. You can remix items and sentences already in our item bank, or you can create new ones from scratch.
To get started on a goal, just hit the Start button on the goal page. You can either study in the page itself or expand the learning experience to full screen. There are also additional apps in the sidebar of a goal: iKnow! (our legacy app for memorizing information), Brainspeed (a light game built for quick review), Dictation (an app for mastering sentence patterns).
Your Home page is where you manage your learning world. At the top, Smart.fm recommends which goals to study next, and it also recommends other goals you might like. Underneath your profile image are your study badges and a link to progress charts.
Underneath the goals panels, you'll find an activity stream that gives you a view into all relevant activity across the system, such as friends' study progress and comments. You can interact directly with any event, such as a comment, a shout, a favorite, etc., right there inside the stream.

There’s an optimum moment at which to learn, and our job is to calculate that moment for you – for every item you see.
There’s a lot more to it than just – but it’s best to find out the rest for yourself. So sign-up for a free account now to make your own lists, save your learning data, and start getting smart.
